Welcome to the Course

Hello and welcome to the course. Thank you for signing up. It's great to have you here!

Help Your Teen to Learn presents you with a complete support package designed to give you everything you need to support your teen's learning, specifically between the ages of 13 and 16.

The course is divided into seven sections:

  • Introduction: Helping Your Teen to Learn
  • Thinking About Learning
  • Fostering Resilience
  • Deepening Knowledge
  • Sharpening Skills
  • Supporting Revision
  • Play, Engagement and Enjoyment

You can work your way through these in sequence, or you can do them in an order that suits you. My only advice would be to do Section 1 first, as this lays the groundwork for all that follows.

Each section contains four videos, a practical guide and a cheat sheet. Sections 5, 6 and 7 also include bonus resources. These are ready-made tools you can use to support your teen's learning and revision.

The videos are packed with insights and guidance about key aspects of learning. The guides present practical strategies, activities and techniques you can use with your teen (and feel free to adapt, modify and develop them so they work for you). And the cheat sheets are concise, one-page summaries highlighting the key takeaways from each section and reminding you of the practical tools contained in the guides. In total, there are more than fifty practical strategies in the guides, along with another 30 revision strategies in the bonus resource included in Section 6. So plenty for you to use and share with your teen.

Finally, there is a course workbook. You will find this at the end of this section. There are two versions - one you can edit online and one optimised for printing at home. The course workbook is optional. Take a look and decide if you want to use it. If you do, great! If not, that's OK too. The most important thing is to use the course and the course materials in a way that works for you.

So that's about it. Introduction over, course introduced and practicalities covered. All that's left for me to say is good luck, I hope you enjoy the course and I'm sure you'll do a brilliant job helping your teen to learn.
